Sue Cortese is a talented artist who has specialized in dyeing her own fabrics with chemical and natural indigo dyes. Her award-winning quilts have been accepted in regional and national shows. She has been trained and certified as a judge since 2014 for quilts and that aspect of her career was the subject of her presentation to our June meeting. She shared what she looks for when she is deciding what quilts will wear those coveted ribbons. She explained how it is a very in depth process to become a judge. She related it to writing a thesis. When she is judging a quilt all she sees is the name of the quilt, so she stressed that should be a very important part of every quilt. All the quilts she showed us are quilts she has made, often she showed us 3 at a time and we had 3 minutes to pick the best, some made with very similar techniques and some were not. Sue’s website is http://www.selcfabrics.com/
As you look at each group of 3 quilts, pick what you think would get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons.
