Quilt Show 2026
July 23, 24, 25
Many thanks again to everyone who participated in the Quilt Show Survey last fall. We listened, and want to update you on what the Quilt Show Committee is doing, based on the survey results and comments.
Some suggestions we’re actively following are:
· Making the entryway less congested and safer
· Obtaining baskets from stores and groups for silent auction during the Quilt Show
· Having demonstrations during the show, or bed-turnings with vintage quilts.
Publicity – Some people noted they have ideas to enhance the effectiveness of the Quilt Show’s publicity. Because the survey was anonymous, please identify yourself to us, Susan Harper and Laura Marcus-Nolan.
Voting and Judging – Some people commented they wanted a judged show; others wanted to keep the ribbon awards as they are. From the survey results:
The majority voted to keep the ribbon awards by popular vote only with no judging across all categories. So that is what we will do.
And, per your suggestions, First, Second and Third place ribbons will be awarded in each category.
Speaking of categories – we’re making some changes. One theme in the comments was to even the playing field for everyone. We looked at how to make this happen, researching what other guilds have done and what is feasible for our team and guild. To this end, we’re:
· Simplifying the sized quilt categories to Large, Medium and Small, and adding Quilting methods to each size category:
o Movable Machine – Quilting predominantly completed on a movable quilting machine that allows the quilter to move the machine head rather than the fabric.
o Stationary Machine or Hand Quilting – Quilting predominantly completed on a stationary sewing machine that allows the quilter to move the fabric rather than the machine, or quilting predominantly completed by hand; any technique.
For example, ribbons will be awarded for:
· Large quilts, quilted by moveable machine
· Large quilts, quilted by stationary machine or hand quilting
Additional categories:
·
· We’re defining Art Quilts as using any technique, displaying innovative design & materials, using fabric as primary medium; consisting of 3 layers (top, batting, backing) & having no hard frame or mounting.
· We’re adding two new categories, Quilted Wearables and Quilted Accessories, as many members are now creating items that can be worn or carried.
Thanks again for all your input. We look forward to seeing your beautiful quilts, and to volunteering with you for the Quilt Show!
Your Quilt Show Co-Chairs,
Susan Harper and Laura Marcus-Nolan
Special thanks to Gargi Hales, Sue Jeffries, and Barb Wexall for reviewing how we manage the quilt show categories, sign up sheets and other things.

New this year we will have a consignment boutique that will run separately from the regular boutique. You may sell any hand made items, greeting cards, soaps, small totes, even quilts. The consignee will receive 80% and the guild 20%. We are still working out the details.
Sign up Sheets

We are not making a quilt to raffle this year but a quilt to be donated to the Read Ottawa. They will then sell raffle tickets or auction it off. A lot less work for our guild. We handed out blocks in February to make the book themed quilt.
