“Stitched Stories” is our theme for this year.
Set Up
The Quilt Show begins with Elizabeth and Barb talking to Todd at Fox 17 News. If you would like to listen https://www.fox17online.com/morning-mix/lighthouse-quilt-guilds-annual-quilt-show-returns-to-grand-haven . The ladies did a great job promoting our guild and our show. Tuesday night we bring all the racks from storage to the church. Set up begins Wednesday when we set up the racks, the scrims and then the quilts. Thursday morning is fun when the Coast Guard comes to cut the ribbon to begin this 3 day event this year.

From left, Coast Guard Festival Executive Director Tracy Riley, Lighthouse Quilt Guild co-chair Susan Harper, U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Lisa Pietruszka, Second Christian Reformed Church pastor Tim Blackmon and Lighthouse Quilt Guild co-chair Laura Marcus-Nolan cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially kick off the 101st Coast Guard Festival at the guild’s annual quilt show.

This lighthouse quilt designed and made by Elizabeth was donated to the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy, which will be used in the organization’s silent auction in September to raise funds for their preservation efforts.

Upcoming Programs and a nice display of community outreach quilts. We allocate a substantial part of our budget to make and donate quilts to local organizations, including the Lakeshore Pregnancy Center, the Ottawa County health department, Habitat for Humanity and the North Ottawa Breast Cancer Center.
“This is … kind of the whole mission of the guild, giving back to our community,” Susan Harper said.

Boutique

Leslie Johnson has been our boutique queen for many years. She collects fabric and notions all year, marks it and stores it until the quilt show. Because of health reasons she is stepping down from this responsibility and we are looking for a person plus a committee to take over for next year. The Boutique brings in a good portion of our money that we use for speakers through out the year. We also would like some type of storage facility. Please consider helping out.

I tried my best to get a picture of everyone’s quilt. If I have forgotten one please let me know. Wendy Rice

Art Quilts

Jemma had a great story at show and tell about her quilt and how it related to her Stats teacher, on the right, John Mauro. So nice of him to come to the show and Chris was quick to get his picture (recognizing him from his shirt).

Challenge Quilts
Upcycled Beauty
Use repurposed fabric and materials! Measurements no larger than 120″ perimeter. It was an interesting challenge this year with not too many up for the challenge.

In Memory of Alicia Gilewski
We honored our fellow guild member and friend, Alicia Gilewski, who passed away in July of 2023 following a short illness. Alicia was co-chair of our Quilt Show, with Jackie Fisher, in 2022 and 2023. Her wish, expressed to her family, was that all of her quilting supplies be offered for sale to guild members and the proceeds of the sale donated to our Lighthouse Quilt Guild. A number of guild members used the fabrics, patterns, kits, tools they purchased to make original quilted items while others tackled one of Alicia’s partially finished project and finished that. Their creations (11 in total) were on display in this year’s show.
Alicia was also a prolific reader and a member of Spring Lake Friends of the Library. In recognition of that interest, our guild purchased a library cart in her name for use in our own guild quilting library. The sewing machine placque below will go on the library cart.
If I have missed any quilts or you have one not in the show please send me a picture and I will add it. Fun to see all we have done in her memory.

And the Take Down and Putting into storage the racks.
It took us about an hour to get everything down, the quilts given back, and the racks all put in the truck. Then another hour to put the racks back into storage.

That is very nice of you to say that Amy. It is a challenge.
Wendy
Wendy is so sly and quiet walking around the show but is sure to take some beautiful photos of every quilt in the show. I know she takes her job serious and and takes pride in making sure everyone’s quilt is shown to their best! Thanks Wendy for doing a wonderful job!
